Juriaj Simek was born in Slovakia on September 29, 1987 and has been playing ice hockey all over the world. He first stepped on the ice when he was four years old and never looked back. For his fifth birthday he received his very own hockey stick and pair of gloves and skates… who knew this would be the start to an unbelievable career? He attended his first hockey school is Bern, Switzerland, and later moved to Kloten to play because the competition was better there. He was just 16 years old when he first played with the pros. He went to play in the U18 World Championship and twice on the U20 team where he was awarded the top scorer. The Vancouver Canucks drafted him when he was 18. He was later drafted to the CHL import draft for the Canadian juniors and played in Brandon Manitoba for one season. Eventually he was drafted to Tampa Bay (Norfolk Admirals) and he was extremely excited. He then ventured to Russia and played in the KHL, but soon came back to Tampa Bay. He is now currently playing in Geneva and recently won the Spengler Cup, beating teams from America, Russia, Czech, and Canada. He firmly believes he will come back to North America to try out for the NHL because he is not only physically, but mentally stronger than in the past. Surprisingly Juriaj does not have a favorite quote; instead he says that if a quote makes sense and is good he likes it. After his career as a player, he wants to pursue coaching either on or off the ice. The moment you meet Juriaj you will notice he is an extremely hard working individual who will never, ever back down from a challenge!
