Mike Smith was the MVP of the Junior College All Star Game, Junior College athlete of the year in 2007, MVP of the Famous Idaho-Potato Bowl in 2011, MVP of the Players Classic All Star Game in 2012, and drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2012 NFL draft. These accolades are a brief overview describing how much of an athlete Mike Smith is.
Mike was born August 9, 1988 in the south side of Tucson, Arizona. He attended Sunnyside High School and lived with both his father and mother. After Mike graduated college he was dealt a horrible tragedy when is mom was murdered in 2007. Even though this happened and only started on his varsity football team his senior year, Mike continued to play like a champion. He ended up taking the junior college route where he attended Eastern Arizona College. After attending EAC for two years and tearing up the gridiron, Mike ran a 4.28 40-yard dash, which definitely raised some eyebrows from colleges across the nation. He ended up choosing Utah State University to continue his football career. After attending USU for three years majoring in Finance-economics, he decided to pursue his Master’s degree in Education. After Mike made this decision he received a phone call that changed his life; he was now a member of the NFL. This phone call brought Mike to our very own Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mike is one of the most humble guys to ever train here at Cooper’s Sports Performance and besides his physique and athletic ability you would never know that he was a professional football player.
Mike also has a beautiful fiancé, which happens to be a professional basketball player overseas. When asked what his favorite quote Mike responded, “ Work hard now and reap the benefits later in life. Then to have fun now and struggle later.” Every time he steps in the weight room he knows it’s go time and he definitely practices what he preaches.
